Oldsmobile Super 88 (1960)

The Super 88 was Oldsmobile's factory hot rod, and over 16,000 were sold in 1960. All GM cars featured a new chassis for 1959 and the Super 88 ran an X-braced steel frame with independent front and live axle rear, all on coil springs. This custom version has been changed by adding lowered and uprated springs from a 1969 Chevy and air shocks at the rear. While the Super 88 left the factory with a torquey 394ci (6.5-liter) V8, this car's has since been replaced by a small-block Chevy for cost and ease of tuning, and the new unit is both lighter and more powerful in addition. Body modifications include the hood being extended and peaked by 2 inches (50mm), the tail lights frenched (sunken) into the body, and the side trim being shaved for a smooth look. The rims are 8 inches (203mm) wide and carry low profiles to bring the handling up to modern standards.
