Mitsubishi FTO

The 1995 FTO was only produced for Japan, but due to public demand and the growth of importers around the world, it was in many other countries soon after. It had an excellent combination of a revvy engine, brilliant front-wheel drive handling and a luxurious interior in a shapely coupe. The front suspension had MacPherson struts and lower wishbones while the rear was more complex with transverse upper and lower links, longitudinal links and an anti-roll bar. The brakes were very effective, being discs all around which required very little effort to pull the car's speed down rapidly. Though it came with a 110ci (1.8-liter) four-cylinder in base form, the real performer was the MIVEC (Mitsubishi Induction Valve Electronic Control) 122ci (2-liter) V6, which beyond 5,600rpm would use a more radical camshaft profile for more power up to the 8,200rpm redline.
