Jaguar E-Type Lightweight

While the E-Type was based on a similar chassis to the racing D-Type, and used an even more advanced independent rear suspension, it was never designed to be a race car. However, it had encouraging results in the hands of private racers, which persuaded Jaguar to make a limited number of very special 'Lightweight' cars. The body was made in aluminium and the fenders were removed completely while other omissions included badges, trim and most of the interior. The car was based on the E-Type roadster, but used a fixed hardtop which helped with rigidity. Suspension was uprated with stiffer torsion bars and a fatter anti-roll bar up front. At the rear it had modified wishbones, lightened hub carriers and stiffer shocks. Power was upped with Lucas fuel injection and a cast-alloy block. Just 12 cars were produced, and most are still about, having a great racing history.
