Ford Torino Cobra (1970)

While the new-for-1970 Torino GT was a good muscle car, the Cobra was the bare-knuckle fighter version. It was based on said sporty GT, but instead of the small-block, it featured a 429ci (7-liter) big-block but it wasn't the Boss 429, even though it made a lot of power, thanks to 11.3:1 compression, upgraded heads, a high-lift cam and high-flow Holley carburettor. If the Drag Pack was ordered the engine received solid lifter cam, oil cooler, forged pistons, a four-bolt main cap block, and an even larger carb for 375bhp (280kW) and a lot more durability in racing. To cope with the power the Cobra could be ordered with either a Traction Lok limited-slip differential with 3.91:1 gears, or for more serious racers there was the harsher, more noisy Detroit Locker with 4.30:1 gearing for best acceleration. The Shaker hood scoop even had a ram air system for more power on the move.
