Ford Mustang GT/CS (1968)

The Mustang was extremely popular during its first few years of production, but com petition from other manufacturers saw a drop in sales for 1968, so Ford released a number of limited-edition models to rectify the situation. The GT/SC was one, and it stood for Grand Turismo California Special. As a GT, it got heavy-duty Springs and shocks, dual exhaust with special double protruding tips (for this year only) and a thicker front anti-roll bar. The CA part of the deal added special side scoops, Shelby-style rear lights, a plain grille and special emblems all over. Under the hood of this special was the mighty 390ci (6.3-liter) big-block, which had huge torque throughout the rev range. It could easily accelerate the car to 14-second quarter-mile times in stock form, but it was most impressive on the street once the Goodyear Polyglas bias-ply tyres had found grip.
