Chevrolet Nova SS (1973)

For 1968 the Nova filled out considerably, more towards an intermediate car. It also looked much more like many of the muscle cars of the time thanks to its fastback styling. Though the car was available with a big-block V8, by 1973 when this car was produced only the small-block V8 was on the option list. The Novas make great drag cars as they have much room under the hood for big engines and the owner of this car has chosen to install a 454ci (7.4-liter) big-block, bored out to 468ci (7.6 liters) and fully balanced. It has an Iskendarian high-lift cam, rare L88 manifold and a high-flow four-barrel Holley carburettor. Regular 454s are only rated at 450bhp (335kW), so it's no surprise this one will do the quarter-mile in 12.5 seconds. It uses the stock suspension, albeit lowered, with a pair of traction bars at the rear to help launch the car off the line.
